Recipe of Perfect Githeri

Githeri is native to East Kenya in particular and Africa as a whole - a one-pot meal, traditional made out of boiled corn and beans only. Corn and beans is a staple in African cuisine, they are cooked fresh, or dried and the flavor is unbelievable good without any adornments. Githeri (Gĩtheri), also called muthere or mutheri, is a Kenyan traditional meal of maize and legumes, mostly beans of any type mixed and boiled together. The maize and beans are mixed together in a sufuria or pot, water is then added and the mixture boiled until the food is cooked and ready to eat.
Githeri is one of the most favored of recent trending meals in the world. It is enjoyed by millions daily. It is easy, it is quick, it tastes delicious. Githeri is something which I have loved my whole life. They’re fine and they look fantastic.
To get started with this particular recipe, we must prepare a few components. You can have githeri using 10 ingredients and 8 steps. Here is how you cook that.
The ingredients needed to make Githeri:
- Take 2 pcs maize cobs
- Take 1 cup beans
- Get 1 pc carrot
- Prepare Capsicum
- Get Cooking oil
- Get Corriander
- Prepare Bulb onion
- Make ready Salt
- Prepare 1 pc tomato
- Prepare clove Garlic
The combination of beans and corn supplies a full complement of protein for the often protein-poor diet of many Kenyans. Githeri is a traditional kenyan dish of which the name derives from the Kikuyu people of Kenya. It is however eaten all over Kenya and is also know as Mutheri among some Kenyans. This typical kenyan stapple food consists mainly of beans and mais, but can be served with some extras.
Instructions to make Githeri:
- Sort your beans and mix them with maize
- Wash and boil till soft
- Fry your onions till golden brown then add garlic and tomato and salt
- Add carrot and boiled githeri, stir until all the ingredients mix well
- Add 1/2 cup of water, cover and let it cook
- Add Capsicum and simmer for 5 minutes
- Add Corriander and switch off the heat
- Serve
