Easiest Way to Prepare Quick Owo and Starch
Hey everyone, it is Jim, welcome to my recipe site. Today, we’re going to make a special dish, owo and starch. It is one of my favorites food recipes. This time, I am going to make it a little bit tasty. This will be really delicious.
Owo and Starch As a Sapele born, I was a bit surprised at the look of surprise on the faces of my northern friends when I told them I eat starch. Owo soup (Traditional Delta Urhobo Recipe). Urhobo Owo soup is usually yellow, hence people calling Starch & Owo, Yellow & Yellow. It may be the pics 🙂 or the recipes have evolved.
Owo and Starch is one of the most favored of current trending meals on earth. It’s easy, it’s quick, it tastes delicious. It is enjoyed by millions daily. They’re fine and they look fantastic. Owo and Starch is something which I’ve loved my entire life.
To begin with this recipe, we have to prepare a few ingredients. You can cook owo and starch using 9 ingredients and 4 steps. Here is how you can achieve it.
The ingredients needed to make Owo and Starch:
- Prepare Meat (I used intestine: shaki, roundabout etc
- Prepare Dry fish
- Get Crayfish
- Take Pepper
- Get Palm oil
- Take Salt
- Take Seasoning
- Take Potash
- Take Local Starch (not the processed one for clothes)
Do not cover the soup until it cools. And voila you have made a delicious pot of Owo Soup. The History Of Warri's Famous Starch & Owo Soup - Food - Nairaland. According to Itsoken(from the Isoko tribe) Owo soup is prepared by adding some kind of carb/starch, which could be either sifted garri, edible starch or yam; and no tomato is added.
Instructions to make Owo and Starch:
- Put your meat on fire and allow it to get cooked. When the meat is done, add the quantity of water you need depending on how much you want the soup to be.
- Wash fish and add. Add in seasoning, salt, crayfish, pepper and palm oil. Allow it to boil very well for about 5mins depending on the pressure of your cooking flame. Add very little potash to help it mix properly. Mix little quantity of starch in water and pour into it as thickener. Cover it to boil for 2mins and our owo soup is ready.
- NOTE; I usually add periwinkles to my owo when adding fish but today, I do not have periwinkle. It's optional but nice. You can also use garri as thickener in place of starch but I prefer user starch, it gives better results for me.
- STARCH; mix your starch with cold water inside a clean pot. Don't let it to be too light or too thick if not it would make the starch watery or too hard, mix moderately. Place it on fire, add few drops of oil (it doesn't need much oil). Keep stirring on fire with a wooden spoon and it would gradually turn into a thick paste that is cool enough to serve as swallow. Pour into a plate and serve with the owo soup. Bon Appétit!
